Beyond the Ufot Family Cycle, Mfoniso Udofia’s plays continue to investigate the expansiveness of Black life.
These works move across form and scale: from the intimate-epic of creation stories and all the important importants — an ur-text to the entire cycle — to adaptations of Othello that invite audiences under the hood of Shakespeare’s haunting architecture.
From radio plays to church plays, from youth plays to ten-minute epics, from theatrical experiments to monologues for the aspiring Black actor, this body of work reveals the breadth of Udofia’s ongoing inquiry.
